Isn’t it interesting that we spend much of our time
Waiting for triumph or disasters to come our way
While we silently struggle to maintain equanimity
As if to appear calm, cool, and collected from trifles
That upset, demean, hurt, damage, and cut into our souls
Wish that we would have the collective wisdom
To sit still and wait for no reason at all except to wonder
Isn’t it coincidental that we wait for the same lights
On the same roadways every working day of our lives
Hoping to steal a precious second of time from our Maker
As if to say to the world that we’re important and infallible
And need not bother ourselves with mundane redundancies
Wish that we were patient and meek enough
To take each breath as a gift from God
Isn’t it a universal truth that our self-importance
Blinds us to the needs of others who suffer at our doing
While we go about our business to maintain a sense of normalcy
As if to prove to ourselves that sanity is just around the corner
Oh, what cruel temptations lay for those who do not struggle
Wish that we had the omniscience that our Maker imbues
To know that time is elusive and not meant to control
Isn’t it humorous that we spend much of our lives
Doing the same thing and expecting different results
Fooling ourselves into thinking we are the masters
Of our own fate by our own intentions and good will
And need not seek divine guidance from one greater
Wish we were humble enough to face the hard truth
That our existence here is temporal and incomplete

That our existence here is temporal and incomplete
I tend to believe, like you, that our being is incomplete. I am an older man and, in a way, I look forward to my singular journey into the beyond, whatever that may be.
