Late Bloomer

A Rose..planted in the perfect spot in the sun.. why can't it thrive?... It is choked with the emotion of regret, comparison and lack of self esteem..Is escape a possibility?...

Late Bloomer

But the flower could not reply,
For she was weary,
Weary of struggle,

Weary of pain and fear,
Tired of the brave, determined

unnaturally bright facade
she presented to the world.

Tired of fooling and feeling
the hurt of the years.
Wrong place at the right time,
Right words at the wrong time
She yearned to reply,
To pour out the very atoms of her existence,
and purge the pain that was the sap of her strength.
How could she ever be seen or heard?
Tiny forgotten Rose among the brambles.
Never aware of her own special beauty,
Her illuminating brightness,
Interminable courage, and survivability
Against the odds.
Life's winners surrounded her,
The chosen Ones,
Earth prepared and ready-tilled for
their comfort and assured success.
Compete?
The late bloomer settled back with
the sultry sunset, sadly secure
with her roots set in sackcloth and ashes,
her barbed thorns for protection,
and nestled into the comfort of the brambles
she felt would finally choke her.
ESCAPE?

Better to bloom late than never to bloom. Some flowers take years to bloom. How that flower must feel when everyone around her is blooming. But alas, when that flower does bloom, and it will. The other flowers will pale to the magnificence and beauty of her bloom.

Diana, I can relate to your words especially the insecurity. Remember, God doesn't give you anything you can't handle. You are the amazing woman today because you have been through the pain!! You are beautiful on the inside and out! A rose that is striving now because of the will to survive!! I see this poem was written a few years back...I am sure that rose is beautiful than ever now!! :) Your friend, ~Chessly

OF COURSE!(SMILE) I HOPE THIS 'BURST' OF OPTIMISM DIDN'T SHOCK YOU...BUT I'M A BELIEVER! AS LONG AS THERE IS LIFE...THERE IS HOPE. YEAH...THE OLD GAL CAN DO IT...IF...SHE HAS THE FAITH IN HIM, WHOM SHE CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH. THE IMAGERY IN THIS METAFORE IS FANTASTIC. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...

I have to ask, Diana...do you not know that rose is you? Do you not already know the answer to your questions? No one or no thing can stifle you. Look how beautifully you wrote this. That is the first step. Now write some more.

Splendid poetic penning.
A lady and a rose; the two certainly are alike in some ways.

Best wishes

What an insightful and revealing poem! And it's parallel to many young persons I have met is uncanning.

One lesson to be learned is that "Late bloomer" is not to be equated with "Non-bloomer." Let us remember the wisdom of the classic words, "Saving the best for last."

A wonderful write, Diana.

Diana,

A claustrophobic feel to this, wanting to burst free of the brambles ... kind of like - life? Well done!
