Poem taken from "At Home on the Edge©" - a collection of poems

MAMA©

I got me a son in another town,
Being raised by good people –
My people.
I know they good to him,
And ‘sides I ain’t got nothin’
But these two heavy hands.
He smelled so good after he was born.
Didn’t look nothin’ like me though,
With those sharp eyes.
I named him Solomon,
From the Bible ‘cause
He gonna grow to be wise –
Wise enough to see the girl in that
Old woman bent by the well.
Hope them folks tell him how
She birthed him and gave him over
Though she was hurt to crying,
So he’d never know the taste
Of the red earth,
Or trace his pain in the
Creases of calloused hands.

Very well written, I couldn't have the heart to give 'em away though, it'll kill me. I'd rather them be besides me and maybe through my struggles learn....Suffering for sake of love is a gift.

You tell a story well in this, and we can really relate to this character as if she is talking directly to us as we stand beside her-this is a keeper.
