The Old Farmhouse
Slate grey roof, creeper clad wall
Small leaded windows, four chimneys tall
Wide window seats, and thick oak doors
Low beamed ceilings, stone flagged floors
Large spacious kitchen and long, narrow hall
Quaint curved stairway, wood panelled all
Open-hearth fires, cosy and warm
Ancient oak beams add to its charm
Dogs on the hearthrug, cat in the chair
Wind in the chimney, dust everywhere
Mice in the wainscot, spiders up aloft
Clock on the mantelpiece steady tick tock
The rocking chair creaks, a book lies unread
All is peaceful, it’s time for bed
Ghosts from the past glide through at night
Checking to see everything’s all right
I like this poem very much. A peaceful quiet cozy existence which
I can feel.
