{not sick. This is fiction. Blue a lot, but that's another story. Thanks for being here! xOx Pea xOx}
Grey today.
Grey yesterday.
Grey tomorrow, say.
Tried turning lights on.
Tried downloading happy
Faces and thinking happy
Thoughts. Maybe I tried
Too hard. Know I didn’t
Store enough sun
To counteract the flu
Losing you caused
My heart to catch.
My hands shake.
My throat is scratchy.
My body aches.
My eyes fill.
I can’t breathe.
Everyone says I should drink
Rum laced with lemon
And honey. Hot toddy
And sleep, be good
As new. But this strain
Is strong. Doesn’t react
to any prescription.
Don’t call me, I’ll call you.
A powerful work Phyllis, and,as usual, you have given us readers a lot to consider:Losing a loved one can make one feel weak and sick, but it does pass.I like this line: "I'm getting up" (and on with life, perhaps?).
You are such an accomplished writer!
Continued success- Barbara J Henry
Great analogy comparing the loss of loved one and the remorse you feel to the flu. I'm glad you didn't mention Vicks vapor rub in the poem because I've hated it since childhood when my mother used to rub it on my chest and jam it up my nose, burning and smelling badly all the way!
I have enjoyed the play of themes in this cerebrating and striking composition, for it creates thoughts on life and living. "Vicks, Flannel, and Great Expectations?" is a witty wise literary page.
Thanks, guys! But I ain' sick! Supposed to be a metaphor for depression caused by loss of a loved one. Grey days are a lot harder to take when you're down. Anywaaay, looks like I ought to take this back to the drawing board. OH, well...
Mary Angela Nangini's poems celebrate the richness of life and love. From the city to cottage-country and the roads in between, Nangini explores the changing seasons of her varied region. (This book will soon be reprinted in hard cover.)

Grey today.
Grey yesterday.
Grey tomorrow, I’m getting
Up.
This will be my mantra tomorrow.
