Inverse Relationship

I recorded my weight
against time spent writing
plots on green graph paper
taped to the door of the fridge

my weight a dotted line
as if I could subtract some mass
by slighting the flow of ink.
I scored my writing time

with a heavy hand in black
praying that two lines converged.
As the good line rose the dashed line fell
intersecting at the balance of intentions

a stasis of resolve and temptation
written copy prying distance
breathing room between the tally
bought with each page produced

hammering down the bottom line
lifting its favored twin
fueled where the bit drills ore
deep in the manuscript mine.
