The Healing Pen

We write to chase the hurt away,
Our demons flee, but not for long.
They strike again at break of day.

Yet prose or verse will win the fray,
'gainst devilish thoughts and vows gone wrong,
The quill will make them quail like prey.

How hearts turn hard I cannot say,
As decades march along,
Two start as one but lose their way.

On page, or screen, or even clay,
We write love's curing song,
To save souls from their hell to pay.

Leave not your dreams upon the quay,
Nor tarry there for long,
'stead launch the ship into the bay.

Just as the sun bequeaths a ray,
You'll quaff and then grow strong,
To take up pen and write the play.
