There's something special in the changing seasons.
Mornings,
beside the bedroom window
snuggled under warm blankets
we feast on spring.
The house,
surrounded by camellias,
yellow Euryop flowers,
blue Vinca major,
azaleas
rests easy.
Naked in winter,
the centuries old tribal
oak trees, ancient sages,
tower above all
are dressing again
for summer romances.
When spring winds blow,
Those same oaks dance with limbs swaying.
At daybreak, deer
steal the beauty
as they breakfast on blossoms and new growth.
The squirrels arrive later
to empty the grape vines, apple and fig trees
while stealing some oranges and tomatoes.
These cute cartoon characters often take one bite
and donate the rest for the deer
leaving the gardener to go without.
Weeds are a blessing in disguise
since they need pulling
getting us outside
with the splendor.
Lloyd,
