Seventeen daughter
Sits at a single computer
Alone in a gray room
In the company of homework
Taking a break
Watching YouTube Music
Singing to a stapler
High voiced and transported
To the Hollywood Bowl,
The Greek Theater,
Broadway on stage
For millions.
When youth's imagination dies
Due to drudgery and danger
Freedom flickers
Like a candle flame
Near the end of its wick.

Well said, Lloyd. It seems to happen to most of us.
This is indeed a true and meaningful perspective, Lloyd. Thank you for sharing it. You (and perhaps your daughter) might want to check out my poem posted here at AD entitled, "Back to School." Love and peace to you,
Ah. Yes. My imagination was beaten to a pulp, only to raise its rather alien head while I'm playing the back nine. I wonder where I would have gone with my imagination, my candle burning at both its ends. Superb poem, Lloyd. Bravo.
WHISPERS OF THE HEART is artist and author J. Allen Wilson's second book of poetry. It can be autographed and shipped within 48 hours of order. NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
There's something terribly sad and empty in this situation and in the controlled, elegant telling of it. A fine poem.
