Poem Artwork

Switch

She asks if I would like to paint a pear.
I am the patient, she is the art director.

In the mind of Alzheimers, we switch roles;
the patient is compliant, pliable like clay
melting in sunlight; smiling, seems happy -
not knowing right from left. . .

I am patient with the patient - she reaches
for the brush, the paint. With her right hand
she dips, dips, dips, dips the tip of her brush in water.

I guide her hand to the paint; yellow pot, then red.
She dips into yellow, yellow, yellow - red, red, red...

I remember Lake Ashi.  On the right bank - the Tori
and a red boat suspended in smoky mist.

The water; swish, swash, swish, swash, swish.

This is beautiful, I am intrigued with the art program for alzheimers patients, sounds like a wonderful program, I love the name of the program...memories in the making. My mom is is the caretaker for a dear and lovely friend of our family who has alzheimers disease, she enjoys jigsaw puzzles. Wonderful write, sounds like a wonderful program for a great cause.
Blessings,

Through the Amazon by S. Oliver Eldridge

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
