One year ago today I was happy, carefree and calm
I lived a little of what some call the American dream
I had a home, a car, a wife and family
Hell I even had a dog-named keen
But today you see me you would never guess
That yesterday I had the “American Dream”
Instead today you look at me with disgust on in your eyes
One of those people you past on your way to and fro
Never really seeing and definitely not hearing
The ones that make you cringe at the possibility of what could be
Yea you know. The barely hanging on in the system
Paycheck to paycheck

I bring fear to your heart
I can tell
Why else would you pretend that I do not exist?
I was the one sitting at the table next to you last week
As we both had mindless conversation
Using an instrument created to give honor
In useless distraction and senseless chatter
