wondering if I would want to know if alzheimers or dementia are in my future ... to rob me of my past
To know or not to know -- that is something to ponder Would you want to know...Would you be a better person If one day you learned that all your memories would be stolen You wouldn't wake up one morning with amnesia It would be a slow unwinding of your mind First you would forget small things Where are your keys ... What was I looking for after all? That happens to all of us But one day soon nothing would look familiar Not your home -- your belongings -- even your family One day you might ask your child --- Are you the one I love? Would you want to know if this is where your life is heading? A question to ponder.... Copyright 2009 Susan Williams

It is a good question. Having watched both my mother in law and now a good friend of mine develop dementia and Alzheiomers I think even though we do not have a say, that I would rather pass on then become what have become which is to say people who are not the ones we knew but strangers in bodies that we must learn to love all new...if that makes sense.

Your poem touches on an emotional subject that one of our dear friends here on AuthorsDen has experienced. She gives us a thorough account of what she has--and still is--going through. Alzheimers is a terrible disease because without our minds, we are nothing.

Interesting "A Question to Ponder" thought provoking.
