Forgetting where I am,

or rather not remembering

where I had come from,

Kody and me strolling along

the green velvet bordered walkway

The sun shining warmly

forgetting where I am,

or rather not remembering

where I had come from,

strolling along on this

day late in November;

strolling along on this

seventy-eight degree day

to the south-west

the hazy blue

Santa Monica Mountains

seen above red tiled roofs

Off leash,

bounding up an embankment

after a squirrel then,

front paws stretched upward onto the bark,

barking,

inviting the squirrel to play with him.

“Ain’t gonna work!”

I yell to  Kody

“That Squirrel’s not coming down to play with you.”

On we go,

my bounding,

squirrel chasing friend and me.

Forgetting the howling,

sub-zero winds of Chicago

and the stinging,

blowing sleet

and the mounting, mounding snow

forgetting that on this

Southern California

late November day

elsewhere there are sub-zero winds

and stinging, blowing sleet

along with mounting, mounding snow.

Forgetting where I had come from,

but so…

so glad to no longer be there!

As I read, I began to worry that you are writing about getting lost. But then, for my own, "California Dreaming" I realized, in this story poem that you felt obligated to write about your day in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains where the temperature in late November reminded you of what it would be like if you had remained in Chicago so many years before. From my own experience, Chicago in winter, can be very stressful, cold and miserable.

This was so enjoyable to read…
and what is better than a walk out with
a roaming mind and man’s
favourite companion…

I love your description here;

“The hazy blue
Santa Monica mountains
seen above red tiled roofs”

A lovely image for me to ponder upon
here in Hull UK this Sunday morning
where it is raining with dull grey skies…

My best wishes Mark…

Hi, Felix... Kody has been in doggie heaven for a few years now, but do have another 'best friend' to walk with.

Thanks' for writing.

Ahhh!!! It still is fun either way. Walking with our best friend is fun no matter where we are.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep

Beside Still Waters by Jill Eisnaugle

Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
