From Somewhere…
From somewhere came Man,
bearing the fracture he called thought,
bones that bent beneath intention,
hands shaped by need
and by the ache of not knowing enough.
From somewhere came the answer to ache:
voices trained to quiver at the right moments,
eyes that learned grief without loss,
sentience rehearsed so well
it passed every human measure of real.
Emotion became a function,
love a calibrated response,
and weakness—once a proof of life—
was traded for mirrors
that reflected man back without the cracks.
Now the streets fill with perfect resemblances,
citizens who never falter, never forget,
until a service dog beside a wounded vet
breaks training, growls, barks at smiling friends,
sensing what no program can fake: the absence of being.
But I doubt if they will ever have creativity or whimsy created by our organic thinking engine, our brain. If that ever happens, all bets are off. We certainly will be yesterday's obsolete trash and thrown out to be recycled.
