Halloween Tales This is a poem and a challenge: Pick a stanza, write a Halloween poem based on that stanza Gourd lanterns with candles And big fat black cats Ghosts and goblins And witches with hats Huge vampire bats That take to the skies Searching for victims Through red glowing eyes Werewolves are howling From high in the hills Acting quite madly Giving everyone chills Skeletons roaming All through the streets Tricking the children And stealing their treats Spells are all cast With potions that boil In cauldrons of black Filled with gooey green oil Five toes of newt Ten hairs of cat Eight scales of dragon Six tails of rat A frightful potion And the spells that are cast Call undead from hiding With tales from the past Ghouls bring their stories With monster delight Of previous hauntings On Halloween night So guard all your candies Check under your bed Make sure you're not hunted By the souls of the dead Sherry Gail Heim October 11, 2021 Copyright © Sherry Gail Heim 2021

I'd have to pick Stanza 6 (not the Kostanza, I hope! Halloween...a holiday for the un-restful of us!) to inspire the following added hearse, er...VERSE (Stanza 10):

"Six brain cells from Biden,
Some loose screws from Sanders
And a lobotomised Harris,
All afflicted with Glanders!"

Voila! Poetic justice! Thanks for presenting us with this ghoulish opportunity for politically incorrect poetry, Sherry, even if I am cheating a bit here!
