There's a Shadow blockin' his love for another,

Callin' him by day, consumin' him till dawn.

When his eyes finally close, takin' on sleep,

Memories of her sweetness blend with

Bitter nightmares she once spawned.

And yet, he reaches out for her in flight,

              in dream's shadowy-light.

Too much in love with her memory,

But, there's no mistress with such pain.

Dauntin' prowess over him like a shroud,

Sappin' his strength, maskin' his joy,

Stealin' his power like a drug-of-choice refrain.

Blowin' out his last glimmer of light,

                in life's shadowy-night.

As he begins to open his heart to another,

By releasin' pain through song and verse,

The Shadow reappears, offerin' his, yesterd'y.

But movin' slowly towards Joy, he's cursed.

When the memory of her power, reversed.

But, with all will, he let's go for new heights,

For now, his love, for Joy, is right.

Very powerful! Its hard sometimes to forget an old love! They seem to have a hold on some. One of our sons has met a very nice young lady who has much to offer him and he cares about her, yet his old flame seems to pop up and make his life miserable. Good poem......M
