Little Things
by Brenda Joy Dobson
Before the snow storm began,
my BFF took me shopping.
Visiting market shelves, one by one,
gingerly, manuevering about with my cane,
trying not to focus on the pain, while
picking up little things for my snowy days inside.
Looking inside my shopping cart, she said,
"Why do you select little things, when bigger sizes
last longer?"
I answered, "I guess I've gotten used to settling
for little things, not having mobility and all."
She reached down and removed my little jars
of Folgers, cinnamon, and my favorite Coffeemate.
Replaced them with canister sizes, she said,
"Bigger sizes are more economical, too."
Safe inside my dwelling on this snowy night,
awaiting 12 inch estimation,
I sip my warm concoction blend, without worry of
little things, lack.
My awareness transforms to canister-size thoughts
of what I can accomplish if I try...
Tomorrow I'll begin casting fear and cane aside,
to abide, joyfully, in fresh fallen snow.

Face it, each and every one of us has barriers in he/s way -- physical, psychological, cultural, sociological, and-or emotional -- that tempt us to settle for "little." For some, the barriers are enormous. You are obviously an individual who says, "The bigger the barrier, the sweeter it is to find a way over, under, or around!" You are
