IF ONLY

If only grocery shopping counted as exercise
If only impatience made me thin
If only there was syrup I could swallow
to lift my sagging breasts or my spirits
If only I finished a round of golf
with the same smile that I begin.

If only having dry skin gave me courage
If only drinking wine made me smart
If only there were wet wipes that cleaned
off age spots and wrinkles
If only my hips and my knees
were not so far apart.

If only watching movies raised my HDL
If only constipation gave me joy
If only there was a vaccine that would protect me
against feeling guilty
If only I could somehow turn into a boy

If only eating pasta helped me remember
If only eating chocolate helped me forget
If only one morning I’d bound out of bed
feeling excited and willing and set
to welcome old age
