A FIRST LOVE
Across the road toward a grassy meadow in the park
For a quick game of spin the bottle
I hustle twisting the cigar-band
Ring the neighbor boy gave me last night as he
Sat cross-legged on my front porch step
Teasing me about my red hair,
Laughing at my spindly legs, my
Overabundance of freckles, my
Voluble voice and my knock-knees that
Even now, brush each other as they carry me toward first love.
