The names we dub those we don't want to see. Are we so different?

             Name Calling

A tearful child of thirty years
lives in a desolate space from where
she cannot fly. She is named
Retarded.

Within a mile or two abides
a gifted twenty two year man. He’s
bewitched the violin with a master’s touch
but cannot tie or speak. He is proclaimed
Savant.

A few blocks down I see a wife
with children round and thin. Her husband
died in battle today. She is renamed
Poor Widow.

A faceless child runs the streets
no mother, no father, tossed about
by the bureaucrats, dirty, disheveled.
This child is labeled -
Undesirable.

Are they not alone in the same
bit of dust under our feet?
And aren’t you and I so great as to see
that they keep their place?
Hidden

Oh Glenda
such truth and shame one might receive from reading this. I am amazed by the capturing of the forgotten.

Why do they hide?? All have a right to life no matter from which path they walk, profound writing...

Be always safe,
