Your sweet soul was in strife

when you walked into my life

Eyes with tears and on your lips a frown

when your world was tumbling down?

your anguish, guilt, uncertainty

all your hurt that was inside

all the pain you tried to hide?

asking not for sympathy

but, guidance, love, a friendly smile

a safe haven to stay awhile?

Gazing upon your trusting eyes,

I saw your smiles and heard your sighs

When you spoke of heartache, pain and woes?

I knew then I’d fight your foes.

The light came to your eyes

I heard your laughter and giggling replies

Feeling the warmth of your loving soul?

I knew then my life was whole.

We'd talk the night away

About feelings, friends, what we did that day?

Laughing, crying as our hearts desired

Into the wee hours? I never tired.

Writing of my love for you

Thinking, feeling, “what if she knew?

Would she throw my love away?

Bid me go, no longer stay?”

I shared with you my poetry?

Love expressed in metaphoric simile?

Hidden in those words of rhyme

Revealed my heart of one so divine?

When the awareness of my love for you

came into your eyes of azure blue

and you questioned how anyone

could love you so? I was stung.

Yearning to hold you close to me

To chase your fears away desperately

And tell you “My Love, so divine…

you deserve such love, such love as mine.

You are the reason that poets rhyme

That artists paint a woman sublime.

That songs are sung with passionate feeling."

Oh, the love in my heart! There is no concealing.

If the time we’ve spent you value

Listen to me when I say hold true

to family, friends that love you dearly

And your soul's worth you’ll see more clearly.

The woman you have revealed to me

I love with my soul passionately.

Your tears, smiles, and giggling laughter

Will remain in my heart always and hereafter.
