Under shady trees by the façade
next to Teatro Degallado,
the niña with black braids plays
the accordion for coins
and a sweet piece of candy.
We drop pesos in her cup.
Brash melody sparkles like sunlight
skipping over water or new chrome.
Her smile flashes in the sun
to blind us to the silent
holes etched deep in night cold eyes.
Which way shall I take the course to my reader’s hearts,
What scale and tools do I collect with,
What voyeur’s wrap I claim in readiness.
Are the ages of my father come to bear,
Or will be for next generation’s benefit:
And for sure hope luck to smile a lot,
Unless I weaken in devotion,
That I harbor this pretext,
Where course is subject to a wanton age.
Gather, flock with us; examine all to beyond:
Valiant person have surpassed our time.

impressive piece, draws to a striking end perfectly.
I like the verbal sketch. I have the picture clearly. Is this literal or dreamy? In any event, I wonder about the symbolism of the two set off lines...
