Wrote this while sitting in a place called The Coffee Cabin in downtown Cobleskill, New York. A nice community nestled in the Schoharie River Valley. Their Sunshine Fair (from August 7-12 this year) is not to be missed. Maybe I'll see someone there?
Sunlight does not reach where I sit
Hovering around the door and windows
Afraid to step too far into the gloom
A droopy, tan luminescence
Barely brighter than sunset
No matter what time of day
Louie Armstrong blares from a loudspeaker
One of my chair's feet is missing a shoe
I rock to hoarse velvet rhythm in the air
The wind tips over a garbage bag across the street
Three girls talk over coffee across the room
One I can see through the fishtank
Two are obscured by a pillar, one partially
Her blond curls bobbing across her shoulders
With every casually uttered curse word
A red pick-up stops in traffic outside
The driver yawns, stretching his elbows
Rubbing underneath his sunglasses
A stunning Cafe write, I'd love to be at one those gatherings,
with my heels off, and a smile on my face, a pad in my hand
and a night of smooth talking women and men!

BRILLIANT evocation here, Daniel... almost Suzanne Vega-like. Could really see, feel and BE THERE! Very subtle atmosphere yet so striking with the strong sense of dark and light and all shades in between.
