Suspended in a Sun Beam
Few of us will ever get to know
our place in the sun
where life is more than a dull moment
in transit from here to
eternity.
Like it or not we are passengers
in a universe that knows
no limits yet leaves us
gasping for more.
To live to love
to seek out our destinies
surrounded by the most
improbable combination of time and
space and circumstances.
Inhabitants on
the Pale Blue dot
longing for more but
constrained by our need for
food and fuel enough to sustain us--
Always in search of what lies
beyond the stretch of our
imaginations.
Being pulled in multi directions
by gravitational forces
for a glimpse of heaven is all that
Providence allows us.
We know our place
Some five billion light years hence
But cannot find answers to
questions of the here and now
that warn and caution us
about our follies.
Our journey ebbs and flows
As the moving finger writes
and records our achievements
our happiness and
our sorrows.
Still on this tiny speck lives
everyone we know and love
everyone who ever was
who lived out their lives as
worthy and unworthy travelers
on a single mote of dust suspended
in a sun beam.
Call Sagen had a wonderful way of cutting through all our earthly pomposity and show us what we really were in the scheme of things large.
Continue to think along the lines of the big picture and write about it.
