Voices Along the Highway of Life
Did we leave our mark on the pages of time?
Of course we did.
Not as glamorous movie stars
But as determined achievers and the good that we could do.
We served our schools, our churches, and our country
In more ways than even we will ever know
As doctors, lawyers, and community builders
As students and as elder states-men and women
As parents and grand parents
As musicians, poets, and engineers
As lovers of life.
In turbulent times and calmer days
We were there
When the bridge of life seemed too far away
We crossed it with determination.
Legacies are not for us to say
We came we saw
We conquered nothing at all
Except ourselves and the good that we could do.
Traveling down roads rarely taken
Was no easy task
With obstacles and barriers at every turn
Still the torch we were handed gave just enough light
To help us keep faith with the few still ahead
and those who now follow.
But if there are troubled times yet to come
We’ll take on those challenges too
Or we’ll die trying...because--
It’s in our calling.
But one person's trash is another person's treasure. What was once thrown out may later be found by AI and rediscovered once again as part of the legacy of humankind.
I love what you've been called to do. You do it so well.
