They were not the first to arrive
she in her bisque white shawl
he sandal footed
his staff held tight
in quiet hands.
High above them
points of light
brightly shimmering
like silvered candles
flickering.
The sheep
had made their niche
in beds of hay
porcelain figurines
deep in lingered sleep.
He was silent now
calmed by artists hands.
They just stared in wonder
the shepherd boy
motionless in glow of night
three kings in flowing robes
radiant as the gold they carried
and hallooed angels
flying in unmoving flight.
Staring past
his mother's eyes
upon the brightest star
He seemed to draw the light
to center point
as though the world
beneath the tree were more
than bisque and clay.
