An awesome dog poem

The Great Howling Dog in the Mist of the Night

As the sun sets down on me

And the night makes its way upon me

Midnight, moonlight, and bright shining stars all surround me

I gaze around the mountainside

And quietly listen to the howling winds that enclose me in the mist of the night

As I sit way upon my rooftop

“Whoooooooooooooooo”

“OWWOOO!”

Oh my,

What’s that?

It seems a loud, deep howl made its way all up and down the mountain top

I became stiff like the handle on a wooden mop

My spirit drew out from my body and masked itself around me to protect me from the mysteries of danger that may await me

As I quickly look all, round from left to right to find nothing in sight

I begin to feel my body fill with fright

As cold shivers traveled up and down my spine,

And my body fills with goose bumps

“OWWOOO!”

Once more, the loud, deep howl made its way all up and down the mountaintop

I slowly turn to find a pack of wolf dogs

Standing together

Calling to others of his kind

So the families of wolf dogs can bond together as one

To help each other survive

As they run, free in the great outdoors

With no intentions to harm,

I no longer am alarmed

As I realize that, their strength and strong demeanor may be scary

But they only to look to stay with their kind

And love those who love them

So fear not

As looks can be deceiving

However, their heart is the same as ours

With the ability to love and care for the ones around them

All domestic dogs were originally wolves and foxes. We have little to fear from wolves and coyotes today, but in the time before written history, in a time of hunger, wolf packs would come into camps and steal the young and attack the old. Hence, our innate fear of the call of the wolf. From that, stories like Little Red Riding Hood continue the myth that wolves are bad.

Stacey,

A right on message that can also go for humans. We are all different, but our hearts are the same. Excellent message.

Many blessings,
