"The Moral..." is a fun collection of stories we can all relate to, told in a way that is full of witty and tongue-in-cheek humor. Rats that never disappear is my favorite, though the story of touring Germany and an encounter with some snooty hotel managers and waiters is a close second.

Very good. I enjoyed all the drama and interaction. I'm not sure that parents would approve of the shenanigans of those kids in my day, knocking down the fence, and getting totally filthy in a pigsty. Otherwise, reminds me of my growing up.
In 1955 in a new town with over a mile to junior high school, my father took my twin brother and I to a bicycle shop and he negotiated a deal for two new Schwinns. I don't know if we flipped coins or not, but I got a green and white mid tired bike with a headlamp, horn and very useful rack over the rear fender. Roger's was maroon and white and had the big tires of a year older model that was still new. There were no tassels. The deal was both bikes for $90, $45 each although mine was more expensive being the latest model.
Put on at least 25,000 miles before selling that bike for $25. Roger got less for his. Although I recall riding obstacle courses like down a rocky ditch those bikes were tough and mine was still in pristine un-rusty or battered condition when I sold it.

I know those kinds of chance encounters occur, so I suspect that there might be some truth to this story. Charming.

Breathtakingly beautiful! That is the vision of Oregon that I saw in my all too brief visits there long ago. I still have visions of ditches black with boysenberries for the picking. Two things loom in the distance that bother me though: volcanoes and wildfires.
The Cascades are a line of volcanoes that showed their power when Mount Saint Helen blew its top. The wildfires that are now ravaging Washington could come the Oregon as well, and may already have.

A Pacific poetic paradise described in wonderful words. I agree it is at times. However, I have lived there before and it's great for some seasons but in others it's very cold and damp. If it wants to rain, let it be pour down in silver dollars not a constant drip that last for days and many hours. Amen.
