Finally the boy gets out... but where

“Let me go, I can’t go in there again.”

A kick in his face didn’t even move the creature. He is pulling me back. All that darkness and closed space. I will die before I go there again. There is nothing to hold around me, to stop my ascent. I am shaking vigorously and it seems like the creature is having trouble with my resistance at last. Come on, you can do it.

“Aaaaah”

This is the end now. I am falling to my death here. At least I am not stuck in there. I close my eyes. And someone just held my hand. I open my eyes again.

I am in a bed, a lot of tubes and wires clinging to me.

“Where am I?”

My voice seems girlish. My eyes are not focusing, its all fuzzy. There is a woman sitting next to me holding my hand. As soon as I spoke she jumped from her seat and hugged me. Her touch seem to calm my body. The embrace gave me a little strength. This hand, my hand feels odd. I am too weak. And too thin. How long have I been without food. Still cant focus on things. Everything is weird. My stomach seems tiny. Its like I have been without food for an year. I must have been here for a very long time.

“What happened to me?”

I am exploring my hands. They seem alien to my touch but still feel familiar. This is a nightmare.

“You were in an accident dear. Thank God you woke up. The doctors were unsure about your condition.”

“What kind of accident? Did something happen at the lighthouse?”

“What lighthouse dear? You were in your car going to your college.”

College? That doesn't make sense I am still a junior in high school.

“Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. It will all come back to you.”

What will come back? Three years of my life. Its so itchy all over my body. I don’t know why but breathing seems to be a problem and my chest feels heavier. I feel softness under my neck.

“What?”

I jerk upward and try to sit down but my body is too week and not responding to me. I seem to have grown breasts. I rub my eyes vigorously. Focus, come back to focus. And the blur lifts. I have never seen the woman sitting next to me. It seems odd that her touch is so reassuring. I tear the sheets off of my body to see scrawny legs… of a girl. I touch all around and find all the girl parts. This is not happening. This is not me. What am I doing in her. I try to get up but the woman stops me.

“Calm down dear. Its all right. Everything is going to be OK.”

Her voice is reassuring at an internal level. I feel the girl’s body relaxing. The nurse runs into the room and puts something in the IV. My eyes start to get heavier. I look at the hands that don’t belong to me as they fade out of focus. I hear the woman’s voice calming the body even more. Its all a nightmare and I will get up and laugh about it. This is all a nightmare. A very real feeling one. A very…
