It hovers over the sky. An unidentified vessel of shiny metallic substance.
Surrounded by a ring of lights, it looks like a flat pan silver dish gliding into
our Universe. My thoughts are parked on silent drone mode.
Plastered to the window I drop all pretense of watching through my binoculars
and speak directly to them telepathically, from the vowels of my heart.
" Will you help us, please ! "
Since the virus hit the earth, the world has been like a tumbleweed blowing in
the wind striving to survive and destroy this pathogen that threatens to destroy
humanity as we know it.
I go check on my six year old daughter who is asleep in the room next to me.
All I see are crumpled sheets and a discarded Teddy hanging out of the bed.
"Jilly, Jilly " I yell, as I run through the house. The front door is open but her
shoes are still sitting at the front door. Yelling in the dark I race through empty streets.
It's 3 am and nothing living is moving out except the shadows of the middle mark.
I find her at the edge of the river bank on her knees, tears streaking down
her face. She appears to be ok but to be sure I ask her " baby, are you hurt? "
She gives me the most angelic smile and suddenly this heart that had been
lagging behind, suddenly snaps back into regular rhythm. "What is this ?" I ask
as I take the object that is extended to me. " It's a feather from a cormorant
mom" she says. "They gave it to me." I hold her in my arms and squeeze
her gently, " Let's go home baby. " Together we make our way home unaware of
the invisible shield that has just been
activated over our heads.
A golden sun seeps through the window, waking Jilly up from her night's sleep.
"Good morning pumpkin, pancakes are ready so lets !" She rubs her eyes
and sits up. " Mom I had the strangest dream "then she stops in mid thought
and notices her mom's disheveled hair and baggy shirt from yesterday "Mom?"
Coffee poured Maggie sits by her daughters opposite and sips while she talks,
" What did you see last night at the lake ?"
Jilly goes quiet all of a sudden, furrowing her brows she appears to be deep in thought.
Notwithstanding the cormorant's ungainly gait, it's a bird that (some believe) symbolizes taking action, bravery, and imagination. There is beauty in Cormorant feathers. In the sunlight each of them reflects a uniquely distinctive iridescence. Much like each of us I'm thinking. All the same, but so remarkably different in how we view and express life. Peace... rlc
You have obviously included in this brief introduction to a story the clichéd flying saucer encounter and given a very strong hint that the daughter, Jilly may have been abducted and then given. The giving of the Cormorant feather would indicate some Native American influence.
