When I first became a widow I met a woman at a grief meeting and we quickly clicked. We went out for lunch and dinner a few times and got along very well and we started to become friends. Although I only knew Florence a short time, I felt like I knew her all my life. We cried and laughed about everything. I just had new teeth made, but they never fit correctly and I needed an ajustment. One night , we went out for dinner and as we were walking back to my house my teeth started to pop up as we turned the corner. At the same time two young fellows that had just came out of a disco started walking behind us. Florence and I were talking and without any control I came out with a GAG that could wake up the dead. The two fellows shocked at the sound, stop and one said "What the hell was that." Without shame I continued to GAG AND GAG. Florence broke into hysterical laughter and couldn't stop. The two fellows were looking around trying to figure out where that noise was coming from. What is it?" I heard one say between my laughing and gaging. At the end of the block there was a bench, "Florence, let's sit", I said still laughing It was summer so between the heat and the teeth the sweat was driping off me. Without a care in the world, I said, Florence busted out laughing again. She went to her bus stop and I went home with my teeth wraped in tissues in my bag. As we waved goodbye she yelled out to me, "Never a dull moment with you."
They say laughter is the best medicine. I'm glad you found someone to share the grief and the laughter with as well. Being alone with grief makes it more difficult. Not being able to find humor in such a comical situation would be a sad note! I enjoyed your story. It gave me my chuckle for the day.
