When a Music Grinder's Monkey rejects your pennies and throws them back at you, you've been rejected!
Many years ago, a friend and I decided to join the crowd surrounding an organ grinder and his cute, companion, a spunky little monkey that went around collecting money in exchange for the entertainment.
The little monkey was adorable, wearing a sparkly vest and a kelly green top hat off to the side – just like the smirk he wore on his face. I mentioned this to my friend, making fun of it and we both had a good laugh.
When the music was over, the monkey went around collecting change and I, too, gave him some coins. He looked at the coins, looked up at me, stepped back and….
He THREW them back at me!!!
I’ve been around the block a day or two and have had my share of “rejection,” so I made a point to understand the psychology of such an action to the point of developing a healthy “Teflon” attitude, knowing that being rejected usually has nothing to do with me!
But I’ve never, EVER forgotten being rejected by that incredibly smart and spunky organ grinder monkey!!
I deserved his rejection! I developed a lot of respect for the little guy, knowing that I had it coming!!
