We are not better than the natural world, we are the natural world. We are not exceptions or special or privileged, we are the same as the bird, the whale, the amoeba. When we assume we are above nature we are doomed to fail because, nature is strong in all its ways. Nature is stronger than any species, whether humans, or deer, or wolf. Individual species may die out but nature survives, the world survives. The die out in the Permian-Triassic period extinguished 90% of the worlds species but nature survived, the world survived.
There have been many die outs in this planet’s history, some major, some less so, but nature survived. Volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes all have happened killing man and animal alike. We may harm our species and others by wars, climate change, poisoning the air, the seas, the land, however nature will survive, the world will survive, but will we?
Very succinctly, but accurately described. Life has been found thriving in some of the most inhospitable places on the planet. But this life is not human. For us to think we are in charge of this planet, it took millions of years, perhaps as much as 2 billion and the major die off during the Jurassic period. That die off made mammals the dominant species on the Earth and us rather than the dinosaurs who would have never allowed us even one little niche to evolve into.
But the story up until we humans and our bungling stewardship of the earth, has all been very good, as you stated, creating a richer and more diverse biosphere with every evolving creature. We are like children destroying our nest while thinking we are doing good. Based on where we are going, it will take millions of years for the life that comes after to clean up our mess.
