Excerpt from the Spoils of Angel's War
Angel had learned to identify various aircraft thanks to Michael . She recognised a Hurricane when she saw one and this one was flying low and slow .It was coming closer to the field that she was working in, suddenly she felt like her heart had stopped beating , she held he breath.She couldn't believe her eyes , slowly and deliberately it lowered one wing and then the other , repeating the movement four or five times in a rocking motion as it passed over her head .. Her knees went weak and she had to sit down , in the middle of the field she had to sit down and she had to start breathing again .Seeing her suddenly sink , shaking to the ground he was worried . Frank came running to her side "Crazy Bugger " he yelled shaking his fist at the aircraft which was now just a dot in the sky .
"Are you alright Angel , did he frighten you "
"It wiggled Frank " she screamed
Looking extremely worried and having no idea what he should do next he whispered " Is the baby coming early Angel "
"No not the baby ,the airplane , the Hurricane , it wiggled its wings , it was Michael Frank . he's home , he's home ". She started singing the words over and over again.
Angel was shaking so much Frank helped her back to the farmhouse , he wanted the security of having Rose on hand should she be needed .Rose saw them comimg and was also worried. "Whats wrong Angel are you having early labour pains " ?
"Michael's home" she screamed to Rose. "I didn't see a car , who told you " ?
"The Hurricane , it wiggled its wings".Rose looked to Frank for some clarification .He stood there with his hands raised in confusion " That's all she keeps saying , I don't know what it means either "
"Its a signal , Michael said he would fly over one special day and wiggle his wings "
"I wouldn't get your hopes up too high Angel , how could he be flying in his condition " ?Angel hadn't thought about that , she stopped for a moment , could Frank be right ?
"No its him , I know its him somehow he found a way to wiggle his wings
