Poem from a son to his father who was killed in the war

The memories of my early years
Are filled with hope and prayers and tears
Of families torn , emotions raw
Of courage in the face of war

Of people with good humor blessed
Self sacrifice put to the test
Who stood not by while others died
But faced the enemy with pride

My little world of England then
Protected by the best of men
Soldiers , sailors , airmen too
Our skies made safe by just a few

Ten thousand tales of men that shine
Took husbands , sons and father mine
Not being of an age to grieve
My memories now I must retrieve

My life so full with children bright
He'll never know , he had to fight
The grieving that I never had
I now know and I miss you Dad

As you loved me I love my son
He's shown me how it should be done
You're presence once felt in his kiss
The price you paid was all for this

Love from your son

Which way shall I take the course to my reader’s hearts,
What scale and tools do I collect with,
What voyeur’s wrap I claim in readiness.
Are the ages of my father come to bear,
Or will be for next generation’s benefit:
And for sure hope luck to smile a lot,
Unless I weaken in devotion,
That I harbor this pretext,
Where course is subject to a wanton age.
Gather, flock with us; examine all to beyond:
Valiant person have surpassed our time.

I stopped for a chance to read your poetry and was not disaapointed. You have a lot to say and a rhythm that provides your words to sink in.
Thank you!
Susan
