Mother Fish was swimming with her children to show them the surroundings of her realm. Suddenly she was caught in a waterfall. Her heart was beating for her little children. How could she explain the dangers of passing a waterfall to her little fishes? She got very upset and worried that the passage would take long and that the little ones’ patience would run out before the end of the outing. She was hugging her little ones tightly for fear that they would be swept away. There was a wave that could be seen from afar, and suddenly it was there. Mother Fish, all frightened, is struggling, the torrent sweeps her away while she is desperately trying to hold on to her children, and swoosh, and another current turns her over. With a big effort she turns back, while never losing sight of her little fishes, and suddenly, it’s the big fall, the currents double their strength, she cries, she jumps, she hears the heartbreaking cries of her children, they weep, and they call Mom! Mom! She is helpless, she sinks into despair and she gives up, she lets herself go, and splash! They passed the cascade. Mother Fish sees her little fishes again. They are all cheerful and think what great fun their Mom had let them have. And this is how the story of Mother Fish ends.
I see many lessons in this story...but most of all, I see that the mother was so worried about her children and wanted to teach them to stay far from harm...and she cushioned their fall. Sometimes, moms can't cushion the falls though, and that is the hardest part of being a mom sometimes.
