The Heavenly Gift
"What are you doing, Daddy?"
"I’m putting bulbs on the Christmas tree, Honey."
"How do you do that, Daddy?"
"Well, Honey, first I’ll put a red one, then a blue one, Then a -----"
"Then a red one, right, Daddy?'
"Yes, that’s right, Honey."
"Daddy?"
"Yes, Honey."
"I wish I could see a Christmas tree."
"Baby, you know daddy would give anything in this world if you weren’t blind."
"I know you would, Daddy."
"Well, Honey, let me put you on my lap and I’ll tell you all about it. You see, Honey, many years ago a child was born in a manager in Bethlehem."
"What’s a manager, Daddy?"
"It’s part of a stable where the animals stay overnight, but don’t interrupt. Now, let daddy finish. When this child was born, a big, bright start shone above and angels sang in the heaven. For this child was the Son of God."
"Jesus, huh, Daddy?"
"Um-hum. So every year on this day we select a tree with its branches reaching toward heaven and decorate it with beautiful colors in honor of the birth of Jesus."
"Baby Jesus came from God to us, Huh, Daddy?"
"That’s right, dear, Jesus came to us."
"But why did Jesus come to us"
"He came to help the poor and the weak, to cure the sick and to teach people to pray to God in the right way."
"Daddy, did Jesus help little blind girls too?"
"Yes, Honey, he did."
"Daddy, I love Jesus."
"I’m sure you do, Honey, for Jesus loves you."
"Listen, Honey, hear the carolers singing?"
"Yes, I do, Daddy. Daddy, Daddy! You put two bulbs of the same color right next to each other on our Christmas tree!"
"Well, Honey, daddy made a mistake. But, Honey, you CAN’T see…"
