     A brief history of Miami TV and one of my "what went wrong" tales.

While I was hosting movies and my own TV show in Miami in the late 1950s-early '60s, I had a wonderful partner, Bob Clayton, who went on to become the host on "Concentration" later, but at this time we had a highly popular Saturday night program, "The Don and Bob Show" on Channel 7. It was the format which became famous with Jack Paar, Johnny Carson and others, a talk-entertainment program with our own live band, the great Joe Mooney quartet. Jack Paar used to hang out in Miami at the time and palled around with Richard Nixon, Bebe Rebozo, and Billy Graham. Apparently Jack watched our show because a lot of our original material ended up on Jack's show, with Jonathan Winters playing characters similar to ones Bob and I created. But that's another story--.

An agent for a radio personality in town kept coming around to see if he could get this man on our show, a guy called Larry King. We kept telling him, "No, this is not the Don and Bob and Larry Show" so finally Larry went elsewhere.
 

Although Larry's reputation around South Florida was besmirched he must have had a great agent -- look where he ended up. Oh, well.
