It was the wine cooler
And the fact that it’d been a month
Since he’d had sex
That were the culprits…
That was always a bad combination;
And he knew that--
At least, he thought with a smirk,
Julia was helpful…
Still, he hadn’t enjoyed the sex;
He found Julia to be as stiff as a board.
And, as it was with most women of that type,
She thought she was 'all that'--
His bladder interrupted his train of thought.
He carefully removed Julia’s arm from his waist
And headed to the bathroom.
When he returned, Julia was in the kitchen
Making coffee.
Up already?
She asked with a smile.
Yep.
You must be nervous about the interview.
Don’t be, she giggled.
You’ve got it.
She continued.
I usually eat light in the morning.
Coffee and a bagel…
Julia, he said apologetically,
I think I’d better be heading home.
You have time for breakfast David, she chimed back.
The interview’s not until 3.
He nodded.
She popped a bagel into the toaster
And David went back to the bathroom
To wash up.
He dressed,
Then came back to the kitchen.
Julia had not dressed—
She had not even put on a robe.
By the light of day
He could see her body…
And he didn’t like what he saw—
Breeder hips
Small breasts
And a slight but noticeable
Pot belly.
It reminded him of his Aunt Lossie--
The one who had had 8 children—
By 3 different husbands.
His mother,
Her sister,
Used to say
That Lossie
Would get pregnant if a man
Looked at her too hard…
He sighed;
Stared at Julia.
And was thankful that he always carried
A condom in his wallet…
She misinterpreted his look--
Thought it was admiration.
He could tell because she tried
To pose alluringly
As often as she could.
All he really wanted was
To eat
And
To get out of her apartment;
Which is exactly what he did.
During his drive home,
He thought about her.
Why was she so attracted to him?
She probably made more money
Than he did;
And she certainly came from a
Wealthier family than he…
It just didn’t make sense.
In any case,
He reasoned,
He needed to focus.
Her uncle owned a fairly popular restaurant
And he could probably make
Decent money there…
He arrived home
And found that
Despite the chill in the air
His palms were sweaty--
And that, he reasoned, was a sure sign—
This was all too good to be true .

Interesting story line Wendi. I will have to keep up with this one! I like your insight.

Hmmnnn seems like this character needs to look in a mirror himself and see what it is that he has that is so special. Sounds like he thinks He is all that, not the other way around. Good link though to past and present chapters.
