Years ago this retired street cop, prison cop, school cop (Me) stopped into a local gas station/convenience store.
There was a charismatic 4 year old boy by the cash register when I was checking out, so I introduced myself. This boy gave me his name and told me that his dad was the owner (his dad was behind the counter and I knew him quite well, but had never met his son), I asked the boy, "how do you know he is your dad?" The boy replied "because he loves me". So I asked the boy, "how do you know he loves you?" The boy took me by the hand, walked me out to the parking lot to a pick up truck that I knew was the owners. The boy asked me to open the back door and when I did he pointed to the car seat and said "there!" I said "WOW, I guess he does love you".
I walked the boy back inside and shared the rest of the story with his very loving dad. Life is so much better when you know you are loved, because "LOVE IS ALL THAT MATTERS". IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THIS WORLD, START LETTING THE WORLD AROUND YOU KNOW THEY ARE LOVED "I LOVE YOU!"
That precocious boy had a love story for you. Strange, when I was growing up, I was told never to grab hold of the rear door handle because on that car the rear doors opened backwards and were "suicide," doors. Kids who played with the door handle, causing the door to open where it would catch the air passing by the car at speed and pull the kid right off the lap of the woman in the middle seat. It actually happened. Like joyriding on the running board or in the rumble seat also caused many deaths.
In my day, I remember my four-year-old twin brothers standing on the passenger side bucket seat and landing with her hands on the dashboard, laughing, as I shifted up through the gears in my 1935 Ford hot rod with a Cadillac engine. To them, that excitement of riding with their older brother in such a carefree way was love. They still love me for it and for their love of cars. Safe drivers. Funny how our view of being safe as changed.
Owning or working in a convenience store is one of the most unsafe jobs there are. I think that young boy was more likely to see his father shot like my partner's sister's hushand was in a senseless killing over a few dollars in a robbery.
