ASSUMPTION - what does it mean? the act of ASSUMING that something is true , or false, or one way or the other - pro, con - whatever!

It's kind of like pre-judging, or being biased, and taking a firm stance, without really substantiating the real facts of a given situation.

As humans, we are ALL pretty good at this... and... it comes quite natural!

ASSUMPTION

Tom Hyland - 4/13/05

What comes to my mind is the old TV show, the "Odd Couple" when Felix Unger is making a presentation in court, using a blackboard and chalk. He prints the word "ASSUME" in large bold letters across the board. Then, he quickly draws two slashed diagonal lines through the word, like this:

ASS / U / ME  - while saying: when you assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME !!!

Well, Gang, that's what I'm going to do now! I stopped by tonight, just to check on my stats. Lo and behold, I had a new "review." It was on a short story I had posted some time ago, entitled "The New Lepers."

The review was short and sweet, and quite kind. After replying, I went back and re-read the entire piece, out of curiosity. When I finished, scrolled to the bottom, and then realized that this review was the ONLY review ever posted!

So, I scurried over to my stats page again, and guess what? the story had been posted over a year, was read by five hundred and forty-two people (542) but until today, no one had ever bothered to comment!

Now for my ASSUMPTION part - DRUM ROLL - da-dum-da-dum-da-dum --- EITHER nobody liked what I said, or simply didn't care a flying "F" or maybe they were all BIASED NON-smokers!!!

OR maybe, just maybe, I HIT A NERVE? Perhaps they all slithered back into their "OSTRICH" positions, waiting to get their sphincter muscles stretched again?

C'est La Vie! Such is Life!

Let's close with a pun I read many years ago. Believe the author was British:

"Bred any good Rooks lately?"

Ta-Ta!  Tom

Quit whining and enjoy your stats. Being read is more important. Sometimes things have to be reread and absorbed before one can comment. Then you forget where the hell you read it.

Didn't I teach you better than this? (smiles)

Love,
Elizabeth

The New Debtors' Prison by Paul Lonardo

While Debtors prisons no longer exist, many people continue to be persecuted for crimes related to poverty or inability to repay money owed to municipalities. This practice remains in an injustice that needs to be rectified.
