Behind the mask he breathes then walks closer to the frame
Its Halloween night and the door to their house is unlocked
Making his way in he observes them from a darkly distance
They are unaware of the stranger who has just stepped inside.
Insidiously adept at watching for signs of weakness, he leers
through the gap of the closet door with a nyctophobic thrill
in his gut and a sing song hiss between two rotted teeth.
Lanky teens saturated in fake blood, fangs, and spiky synthetic
wigs walk tall and straight despite the alcohol and drug inhales.
"They would make an intoxicating meal" he thinks but then resists.
Suppressing an unethical scream, he watches the lanky one
struggle to keep a vampire cape aright. He carries an empty pillowcase
slung at his flank like a gun sling holster waiting for a pallid night's shot.
"Macabre crimes are better left until the bloody moon cries out her rune"
he cries from restraint and pent up deed. "Olly Olly Oxen Free, everybody doesn't come home free" What a palpable crime it is, she is left alone sleeping on the couch with no costume on just the ring of duty round her pretty white bony finger.
The last of the candle burns out and the living room breathes the stark of
night. He puts a hand over her mouth" don't move or make a sound or I'll ,"
Drip,....goes the water faucet as she becomes one with fear.
Tasked by his Goddess to find, relocate, and then quicken, the last three Heart Tree gem-seeds, Vanx the bard, and his motley crew of adventurers, set out to do just that.
