This story highlihts the fact people can be misjudged and alienated .
A long time ago there was a mad dentist who ran a practice in a tiny village called Whistledown . Not many people ever visited the dentist .
For years the mad dentist had advertised his free teeth removal service as a draw card but nobody as yet had taken up the offer .
He often tried to pull people in off the street but they fought him off . He tried giving away free toys to any child who wanted a filling but still no one came .
He tried singing songs from an open window but was pelted with rotten eggs and tomatoes from passers by . The mad dentist soon gave up and sat I his dental surgery laughing aloud and talking to himself .
In Whistledown there was a boy called Bluey who had pulled out all his own teeth since he was able to chew chocolate which was about ten years ago .
Bluey was a tough nut and never minded pulling out loose teeth .
He pulled out all his teeth except for one . One day Bluey decided to go to the mad dentist and have his last tooth extracted by the mad dentist .
So off he went with only one tooth left to the mad dentist who brought him in
and placed him in the huge dentist chair . The mad dentist shone a very bright light into Bluey’s face and said .
“Ah Ha ! So you’ve finally come to your senses then . Open your mouth to . Come on wide as you can . Wider . Ah Ha . Let me see . Ah Ha ! “
With fingers in his mouth Bluey could not make a sound .
“Where are your teeth ?”
“Ung Ump Haa”
Muffled sounds from Bluey .
“Ah . What , I see . You’ve only one tooth left . “
Said the mad dentist who took his fingers out of Blueys mouth .
“Why do they call you the mad dentist ?”
Billy asked .
“Who me ? Is that what they call me ?”
The dentist replied .
“It is . “
Came the answer .
The mad dentist walked over to the window and screamed aloud .
“Agh Ah . Let me tell you a story . Once I was almost like you .“
Bluey said ,
“You mean young “
“No No . I almost had only one tooth left . You see one day I was getting on the school bus and my teeth got jammed . As the bus took off my teeth went with it . I was left toothless . Not a single tooth was left . “
The mad dentist said .
“You lost them all .“
Bluey replied .
The mad dentist began to cry . Tears ran down his face .
“I was teased at school and made friends with nobody . I couldn’t eat sweets or fruit . It was terrible . While everyone else had toffee and chocolate I drank through straws and sucked coloured ices “
The mad dentist said .
“I didn’t know “
Bluey said .
The mad dentist opened his mouth and showed Bluey the new set of teeth he had . Then he said .
“Let me make you a set of these . At least I can do that for you . hye are called false teeth and I will make everyone of them by hand .“
“Could you really make me some teeth ?”
Bluey asked .
“Open your mouth as wide as you can .“
The mad dentist said .
Bluey did as he was asked and within minutes the mad dentist was busy measuring and tapping and walking back and forward talking aloud .
“Right then close your eyes and count to ten .“
Bluey never made it to three and he was out cold .
When he woke up again the mad dentist was right there holding a mirror in his hand , He looked at Bluey and smiled then he said ,
“Come on them . Look into mirror and smile. “
Bluey could hardly believe his eyes . A brand new set of teeth were in his mouth Every one white and shinning .
“It’s a miracle .“
Said Bluey .
“Do you like them .“
The mad dentist asked .
“They’re fantastic . How can I ever repay you ?“
Bluey asked .
The mad dentist said .
“Just tell people I’m not mad . Ask them to come to me for help . Show them the teeth I made for you . Would you do that for me ?”
”Sure I will . You can count on me ”
Said Bluey .
A week passed and there was a queue outside the dentist . Before you could say Ah , the dentist was the most popular person around .
With his popularity the dentist soon found lots of new friends . In a year or two
he was married to the prettiest girl in town .
They had lots of little children with perfect teeth and skin .
Whistledown was now on the map in a big way . It was the best dental clinic in the land . Specialising in hand made false teeth .
