This is part 9 in an 11 part series...
Sunday, 6 p.m.
As he was paying for his groceries
David’s cell phone rang.
It was his brother Richard,
The cop.
Everyone said Richard’s name
And ‘the cop’ in the same sentence…
Because that’s what Richard was…
From the soles of his feet.
To the crown of his head,
He was all police officer.
Richard was never really
‘Off duty’.
And, he only dated women that worked in
Law enforcement too…
Sometimes David wondered
If Richard slept in his uniform…
Hey, he answered.
Hey man, what’s up?
He considered mentioning Julia to Richard
For a second,
Then knowing that Richard was
‘The cop’
He reconsidered.
Nothing.
Just came from a job interview.
Oh yeah?
David explained his new career plans.
Richard listened intently—
Just like a cop.
When David finished
Richard asked the question that David had hoped
Wouldn’t come…
So how did you get the interview
So fast?
David sighed,
And told him the Julia story.
And, as David knew he would,
Richard said,
‘Be careful—there’s a lot of
Crazies out there, man.
You should let me run her for priors.’
But David was in no mood
To hear about that now.
Maybe later,
After I see how this gig works.
So you’re not going to show up
At your day job tomorrow?
Yeah, I’ll be there.
I work at the restaurant at night.
I’ll be doing double duty
Until I get into cooking school.
You’ll be rolling in the dough
For a while, brother, Richard said
With a laugh.
‘Literally.’
David laughed as well,
But knew it was time to
Take his leave from Richard
Before he said too much.
Let me get some sleep.
I start tomorrow night.
No problem.
Let me know how it goes.
I will.
Bye.
When David got home,
There was already a voicemail from Julia,
Congratulating him.
She wanted him to call her back—
Maybe they could go to dinner
To celebrate.
He sighed…She knew already.
Probably had had her uncle call her
The minute he left the restaurant…
He deleted the message,
Put his groceries away,
And lay across his bed.
His mind was racing,
But he knew he’d need rest.
He’d be doing a lot at the restaurant,
From 6 p.m. until close—
Uncle Serg had opted to rotate him
So that David could see if the
Restaurant business was
‘In his blood’
As David began to drift off,
When the phone rang…
Julia…

Ahh the drama continues and the new cop character is clever, I like the sounds of where this is headed.
