One morning I was riding my bicycle in the country, I stopped on a bridge over a small creek, to pee.
The noise made this giant..I mean giant Great Horned Owl fly from under the bridge and land on a limb not thirty feet away.
This was the largest bird of prey I had ever seen in the wild, he must have been 3 feet tall.
He landed with his back to me and turned his head all the way around and looked at me like...you bastard.. you just spoiled my dinner.
It was just after sunrise and I guess he was waiting for some unsuspecting animal to come to the creek for a drink, then WHAM, dinner.
I will never forget the beauty of that huge bird, nor the look he gave me.

The Great Horned Owl is the strongest bird I've ever worked with and they are absolutely stunning. I'm so glad you got to see one up close and personal in their habitat. Very few people are blessed in that way. I'm sure he found something for dinner after you left. Thanks for sharing your story.

Loved this...glad he didn't chose you *ahem* for dinner!! Yes, our wildlife DO NOT like to be disturbed, especially when they are concentrating on their next meal! You sure got off easy this time!!
WOW! I bet you won't Walt, and as you know- EVERY OWL/Hawk/EAGLE that is SEEN in our presence, is a message for us in the waiting! Do you remember on that day, after seeing him/her, if something really HUGE happened in a convers. with Anyone that might have shocked you or through you for a loop??? If so, he was forewarning YOU!

yes, you most likely guessed correct about that look. Sounds like it was a beautiful sight. Watching nature is amazing and remembering special moments and sharing them with us is great. Lady J
Yes Walt those moments are rare and powerful, for me it was on a fishing trip when a huge crane (which are not native to here and I had never seen one before) took flight from the reeds behind me int he pond I was fishing. The wingspan on this wonder actually threw a complete shadow over me as he rose. Though startled I was also awed and like you I never forgot the impression it made on me.
