Squadrons of left over-world war II- fighters. Flanks of huge Cicadas destroy
everyone and everything. Explosions take hold as police and rescue scramble in
a blanketed cradle of noise, sirens, smoke and now a newly formed

Greg Fredricks a township farmer pulls his rifle from inside the
Kitchen closet. He looks as his lively hood burst’s into flames. Taking
Fast, steady aim, He drops one huge menace after the next pumping shell
casings all over his stance. Reloading he walks out as a last formation goes off
for the city.
He charges back ,” This is just great!-- Absolutely Incredible!---- everything!”
Sherry
screams as he clears the kitchen table with the butt of his 30/30. ” Now--
What are we going to-- do!?’ He bends for a quick last look out a side
window,” Gosh--bet the fire trucks are going crazy!-- Maybe the flames will stay
Away from us. He coughs reading a meter on a small extinguisher over the
stove- - I doubt our other one’s even---charged. She wrestles with the last of the
Books off the tile masonry--No!- its fine, remember? I got it done when you
asked.
He rubs his head staring in space with his baseball cap crooked-- The phone
rings. She answers, Yes -- he’s --right here- passing it to him.
Greg makes it for the dining room stepping from the kitchen to a
Higher elevated dining room-- How the hell am
my going to do that!? A pause- The caller continues rambling. He
coughs looking out at his wife- I’m not going-- anywhere!- Were all but homeless --
our livestock been destroyed!
The dial tone returns. He
cough’s throwing the portable on a chair- Stupid people think- I ought to stop and
go running because some -- dude --takes off. Finally an aircraft noise
rubbles the windows. The Fredrick’s look out --oh-- finally--fighters!
Noise in the distance picks up as a lower plane sprays repellent.
Helicopters fly with mounted explosives.
One jet turns red as lasers intersect his position. It
slams to a rocky crest. Sherry yells,” We’d better go back
In!.”
A Cable news channel flashes on all television stations - Warning- Emergency --
Emergency-- This is an--Emergency-- A Loud steady tone.
Local residents of Chester County- Emergency--Stay indoors!- Large insects of
unknown origin cause major havoc - Please--remain inside- Refrain from use of
All highways and vicinity. We repeat- Stay off roads --Keep indoors!

Two months go by.
Pennsylvanians receive- disaster funds. Hundred of
Business and rural communities lay in memory. Control by emergency
crews make their presence felt but all too late.
Greg Fredricks swings a pick at what’s left of his barn roof- Wonder how on
earth? Sherry walks with her hands on her hips- Somebody- somewhere
Messed up that’s how- You hear the latest? He wipes sweat leaning to
a pick handle -- She smiles for a second look back at the farm house- Some how
when a Flash flood did a number on a laboratory - the bugs got flushed
away. He looks at his watch rubbing his face with the back of his hand. She
Hands him an iced tea- They came in contact
With some nuclear junk. He swallows the drink straight down-
Yeah but that doesn’t account for the those--laser eyes- Don’t you remember
Those things!-
She walks toward him waiting for the empty glass- Honey- I haven’t the faintest
clue.

Radio Station --000.0 9:00pm Tuesday. Discussing the Cicada attack.
A caller holds flashing on the board- Hello thanks for waiting- Yes--
Springfield, Illinois?
The caller speaks in broken English- Someone thinks the insects may of
Been in contact with a nuke dump? The host looks at his cohost- Would
that be even a remote possibility ? A pause- Suppose , something’s
been leaking no one knows about? Joe thrills the talk show host, scratches his
face with a ball point- How could that---- you mean -someone may of dumped?
The caller Stutters - How bout if someone was carrying something and they
wanted to use but decided to abort?
A young brunette whispers in his ear- A nuclear baby?.
Joe holds his composure. Ok let’s take the next caller. The man
yells- No!--wait! The host looks at his co host- Go head--Springfield-
I was in the service at the end of World War two. We knew the Germans had
been to our shores. It was at the close of the thing’s. Some of us believe
They didn’t have the fuel or even the desire to return home. Joe looks
Momentarily at his other studio help passing him a coffee-- So you think they
were carrying something and Skuttled?.

Courts holds--Disaster hearings- Monday
Beach party turns treacherous
Walking a remote shoreline. A couple pass a swampy marsh. The sun now
sets in the distant. Up ahead fellow students play& sing music about a campfire.
One guitar player does a rendition of a rock hit while another student
Pretends to sing. The couple walk up,” Yo dude--- that’s not even close! They all
Start laughing. Suddenly a noise beckons their attention as a plane buzzes their
camp. A blond half naked student screams- What’s this-- about?” A red
beam intersects. First a red flash then everything disappear in a
pile of ashes. One remaining teenager rushes from waters
She scream seeing her friends gone.
Running for her life --in fear --She makes it back to a nearby community. A
Policemen calls for help.

A lucky find- Divers uncover source
scans the beach. An unexpected rock formation hides the submarine making it
Hundred of volunteers circle the bay. High tech surveillance even by satellite
Impossible for radar to detect. Scuba divers find the burial. One mutated larvae
Swims by. A diver taps another pointing. They start for the surface. Suddenly a
Red glow encompasses a surveillance crew. The team turns red disappearing.
Divers surface. What the heck was that? They gasp out of breath. They struggle
In a big yellow- life raft. A researcher undoes his head mask-- What the heck
Are these things!
The other researcher glances behind himself- Whatever they are- they
Destroyed some of our ship mates. The first man struggles for his cell phone-
Hello- Yes- affirmative-- get us out of Here--now--fast! A large white helicopter
drops a life line. They both reach at it
simultaneously. Finally one lifts.
A distant research team phones the raft-- We saw the creature. Its a cicadas but
still in a developing stage. They’re huge! Finally the life line drops for the second
time-- The Last man waves at the boat getting to safety. He signals at the
helicopter to get to safety.
What emergency crews are describing as a freak under ground fire storm
Destroys every inch of a sleeping helpless community. Two towns evacuate as
Rescuers go quickly door to door. One family seeks medical attention
For smoke inhalation as winds carry dark smoke for miles.
A town burns to the groundFires rage at 3:00am by 7:00 only the ashes remains.A Foreign Countries lends a hand.
Entering the bay. A large ship drops a surveillance probe off its starboard
end. It makes the ocean. The skipper radios the research team- Look
don’t Hesitate for any reason-- kill every thing that moves. These creatures are
deadly! A skin diver takes hold of a motorized swimming device for faster
Navigate. A second mounts up preparing to follow. A radar image invokes an
immediate warning-
Wow! A technician yells focusing on a group of shells from hatched creatures
on the ocean floor. These things are out there somewhere!
He phones the skipper- what ever they are this groups full grown and gone!
The captain notifies the underwater team-- Scan your sides- New larvae may
Be swimming.. One crew glances a dark image as it makes by them. The ocean
so churned up they can’t see the image. One diver bumps a fellow researcher-
He activates the sonar blast.
No response. Two crewmembers stare at the screen- Yes! It works! A
Group of sailors watch from the hall cheering. The radioman calls the stern- Yes
Skipper--It working! The underwater team makes the wreckage.
One swimmer points a Geiger counter all the way up leading
To the wreck. He signals shaking his head- No- Nada-
The second group moves closer- It carries a weapon using a high
Frequency sonar blast. A group of larvae un hatched scour the rocky
Cliff overhang. The Main team leader positions - triggering the discharge. The
Larvae disintegrate immediately. Both crews swim back to safety.

The Final Assault-
Two days of talks convene with a plan. Several researchers map out a
Detailed view of the hidden wreckage. A new effort begins.
Two ships with three teams and a third vessal all foreign countries make the
Bay region. Helicopters and Jets fly over. One skipper listens as a distant ship
With the original captain reviews the topography. A commander salutes-- Yes-
We’ll go from one end of the perimeter in clear sweeps. Two hours
pass.
All teams embark. Immediately one skindiver sees a larvae- He points firing.
It drifts, lifeless to the ocean floor. Making the wreckage, Once
Again a crew scans for radio activity. A whole school of larvae are seen guarding
The submarine. Two teams point firing in unison. Bubbles reach
The surface. The larvae disintegrate immediately. The teams swim in
Closer. One researcher eyes a crevice to a deep revine. He craws for a closer
Peek. He rushes back pointing excited. The sonar team takes
Position. Suddenly a noise as the sound ricochets off the
Sunken ship. The menace destroyed. One skindiver floats aimless. A second
Swimmer helps him to the surface. The underwater crews continue their mission
A final Push
Scientist evaluate all data. They have construction crews put large pipes in the
ground. slowly mounted sonar devices sending waves of signals to one another. It
Encompasses a mile circumference. One pole sends signals through the earth to a distant
Perimeter pre located point. A device measures the charge strength ensuring the potency
remains sufficient. An under ground scans tool locates several nests. They’re destroyed
By the sonar.
Greg Fredricks sits in his front room in front of a L.C.D screen- They got em- Those
stinking dirty rottens! Good!!- Sherry lowers on the arm of the chair- You think, all of
them? He looks kissing her Cheek- Yep- I’m sure of it.
The End
A fact finding committee convenes---
Your honor-- What seems to of been a last minute effort on a submarine in our
off shore bay region -- may of been responsible for this mess
after all this time--. A panel opens with a wall filled
meeting. One quest speaker opens-your honor- May I, Hello
- My name is Patty Jerry- I’m a member of a fact finding probe and a
Life long resident of New Jersey- You report lays claim to a submarine
somewhere? --who‘s? The Germans?. Another
News man clears his throat - May I?-- Yes- My name is Bob
Rowman- We think when the famous -Camden flood took place some years
ago- Mutated larvae for research - survived being flushed into the bay and
settled in a marsh of an unknown nuclear dump. The judge glances a
letter on his desk- So you think a discharge took place? The room breaks out
in laughter. Patty lifts up bumping at- Bob Roman waiting for the room to
settle. She carries a
chart of the coastal region shorelines to a standing chart holder. Yes your
Honor- Right here!-- pointing to a red outlined region. Bob Rowman
Interrupts - Excuse me- nodding at the judge- May we? Miss. Jerry
Passes a 81/2 by 11 print out. The committee at a far off table views the chart.
judge Peters raps- Recess- We’ll meet at 3:00pm.
