Sounds wonderful - reminiscing, I mean. Other than one trip with the family to Orlando in '83, and Fort Knox, KY in '60 - never been down your neck of the woods. Seen many movies and shows 'bout N'O and TX, but that doesn't give you the flavor of the places - just can't Taste it.
Back in 2000, went to a Zydeco Dance once - Loved the Cajun music, and the guy with the Washboard on his chest! Had about a half-hour of dance instruction, but it was a lot to learn in such a short time. Was always going to join a club and learn, but never did. No partner at the time, and bashful, doncha know?
As a young'un was a pretty damned good Jitterbugger, and the moves and twirls were quite similar, but more orderly - almost like Ballroom dancing. For some reason, it - Zydeco - never caught on up here in ole Bawlmer. Kinda wish it did.
Took my Lady Friend to a dance Saturday night, at the old Church of the Advent, where I danced every Friday and Saturday nite, from ages 15-20. Bobby Berger's Band was terriffic - all Golden Oldies, Rock N' Roll music all nite long. At the end, he did part of his AL JOLSON ACT - white tux, black face, tamboreen, and all - SWANEE - MAMMY - SONNY BOY - and a few other songs - he is GREAT!
if you don't know his story, he was a Policeman who did JOLSON many years ago, but the NAACP shut him down - took 11 years, but he sued them, and the Police Department, and finally WON a big settlement, bought a Bar/Restaurant, named it Bobby B's Palace, and did Dinner Shows for years. I know him personally, both being South Bawlmer Boys!
Anyways, I danced my fool ARSE off, and the Bursitis KNEES let me know it yesterday!

I wish this was not true , Tom, but is surely is. Deficit spending has become our way of life. Nations do it. States do it. Even 20-year-old kids do it. Raise your Mastercard limit and you spend it out; those minimum monthly payments are easy. Your card limit keeps going up, and you keep spending. Your credit is great! The S&L is pleased to lend you the $80 thousand you need to buy that wonderful $100 house in the suburbs (3 BR 2BA - was $35K a few years ago) -- and now you have a debt which will mature when you are 50, but you won't own it that long -- always trading upwards in debts -- never realizing that you are owned and operated by your debts (they are your status). Suddenly, you are laid off, have an accident, and cannot pay. Your cards, your home (everything you own) is gone -- foreclosed -- bankrupt. This ripple moves UP the money tree and, when the tree-top sickens, the roots die. It is almost too late when we feel this latter trickle-down effect. Deficit spending. Inflation. Happy times. Well, it was fun for a few decades ...

Tonight I heard an AIG honcho talk about what went wrong with AIG. Not once did he mention the excesses, nor the 160 company scheduled outings that would have cost $500M, not counting the golden parachutes paid to the executives that retired after causing the collapse. He blamed it on "getting too far away from insurance, what they knew best." How about that for trickle down BS.

Funny thing happened on the way to INSURANCE -
after being with Liberty Mutual for over 18 years, last year found out they were SCREWING me - $1,600/yr.
Went online to Progressive - got bunch of quotes and CHOSE AIG . only $800.
When TV said they were Belly-up I almost wet my pants!
After reading what you said about their EXCESSES, makes one really wonder how over-priced their (ALL) premiums are!
YESTERDAY heard this Candidate on Radio - WYPR - Was Truly Impressed - Been saying Ralph Nader - but now leaning toward Her & GREEN Party!

Her determination & Stick-to-it-tive-ness while the MC kept trying to shut her down was remarkable - She had something to say - AND SAID IT - the Party Platform makes more sense than the Donkey & Elephant COMBINED!

This was fun to read -- like all the friends chattering in one room. How in the world did you ever get into doing the jitterbug? You are my same age and us kids were doing rock-n-roll in between drag racing and gang fights (we were such nice kids). We never had class enough to do jitterbug or ballroom dancing. Teachers tried to teach us the waltz ... Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
