A true story about one man's insight regarding a friend's future love.

REMEMBER MY WORDS

©2008, Wanda L. Harrell

About ten years ago, I met a very kind and wise man. He calmly asked, “Wanda, would you like me to explain the man with whom you will fall in love?

Excited, and without hesitation, I answered, “Yes! Yes! Please try!”

He began by saying, “This man will be intelligent and talented, but will not flaunt his intellect or gifts. He will also have a terrific sense of humor.”

I smiled, but wanted to know more, much more.

He then said, “He will look like what he looks like. Looks won’t matter.”

Silent, I leaned my head to the side with a questioning gaze on my face.

“This man will love you, the person, the woman, and will put you almost before himself, but not quite. His love for you will give you a sense of freedom that will allow, for the first time in your life, your passion and emotions to run wild.”

Again, I smiled.

“Making love with this man will vacillate between great and awesome, but it will be much more than sex. It will be the complete sharing of yourselves, your minds, bodies and spirits.”

Completely puzzled, I questioned, “Is there more I should know?”

He said, “Yes, much more.”

“Please continue,” I whispered.

“This man will listen when you speak, and will love you without reservation. He will be someone you never thought you would fall in love with, but he will be your final love, your best love. And that love you have for each other will last for the remainder of your days.”

I searched for words, but they refused to come out of my mouth. All I could do was weep silently as I smiled.

Then he smiled back at me, leaning forward just a bit as he added, “Now listen carefully. This man will come to you when you least expect, and he will take your breath away. However, you will not act immediately because you will be afraid he will break your heart. You will, however, recall almost every detail of your initial meeting, and know that is something extraordinary, a clue as to his identity.”

My face glowed with delight when he added, “This man will give you his heart. Upon that act, you will finally lower that shield you have built, the one that guards the pieces of your repeatedly broken heart. You will then offer that shattered heart to him for healing with the all-powerful remedy we call love. He will understand the chance you have taken, and will recognize how much courage it took on your part. This man will truly appreciate your bravery and trust in him.”

Tears welled in my eyes as he continued. “The two of you will have an occasional spat, but they won’t threaten your love for each other or your marriage.”

I quickly wiped away the tear that silently slipped down my right cheek as he said, “And Wanda, all this time you’ve waited, all the lonely nights, all the crying, all the hurt and all pain you have endured will be worth it all. You will finally feel safe. Something as simple as walking alongside each other will give you a feeling of well-being, and when he holds your hand, you will have a sense of security you’ve not known in your lifetime.”

Overwhelmed, I finally mustered courage enough to say, “This is all too good to be true . Are you certain this is not merely a dream?”

“This is not a dream. I am absolutely positive this will happen in your lifetime.”

I sat there, puzzled and curious, but still without words.

Softly, but confidently he said, “And lastly, you should know this man will love and inspire you in ways you have never dreamt possible, and you will love and inspire him greatly.”

Tears still streamed down my cheeks as I said, “I am in awe of your insight. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

He smiled as he said, “You’re most welcome, but when this happens, please smile as you remember my words.”

I answered, “I shall.”
