I would agree with you guys except for the fact religion is no longer a harmless entity, if it ever was. Fundamentalism, of several denominations, threatens civilization and certainly our western way of life. This is not simply a tit for tat argument of believers vs non-believers, this is about sanity and common sense standing up against those who continue to brainwash children in mythology, and in worst cases, prevent girls from having an education, destroying priceless archeaological treasures, and perhaps controlling the nuclear arsenal of Pakistan. Sorry, I think it is time secular humanists said enough is enough with religion and the bus signs are a good place to start.

Like Ted and I said - we are in agreement with you - i.e. AGAINST organized religions - and FOR Humanity and Common Sense.
And, accordingly, each individual is entitled to his/her opinion - However, is it really necessary to "throw the Baby out with the Wash-water?
Perhaps a paraphrase might suffice:
"... The Evil that religion does is oft' interred with its bones -
the Good lives after it - so let it be with religion..."
EXAMPLE - with the exception of the very First Commandment -
"I AM ..." - should the other NINE be discarded? Of the three main variations of the DECALOGUE - which is CORRECT? ANY? ALL? NONE?
If, perchance, only SEVEN, or FIVE, or THREE are deemed MORAL and acceptable - WHO SAYS SO? WHO DETERMINES?
Allowing that 'they' were the backbone, or starting place for The System of Justice and Courts of Law, for both the U.S. and Canada - have 'they' not served us well?
This type of 'debate' could go on, ad infinitum, as Ted has expressed.
To what AVAIL? To what GOOD? Who would 'WIN?'
Does it really matter?

I only made it to 34 years.
Although I was a "dogface doughboy" Army Reservist, who never saw any action, nor any Carrier duty, I was a member of the XXIII Trans. Corps, trained as COXSWAIN on an LCM - Landing Craft Mechanized - and earned a MOS-560 Seaman, and was stationed on a 176' Freighter for Advanced Training, down at Fort Eustis, VA. and berthed on the James River. This was 1960, when I was just 20.

You are right on in this article Tom. Unfortunately, our new President is more arab than he is black. I believe we have the unqualified elected by the uniformed and the ignorant. But that does not mean I want him to fail: I hope with all my heart he is the most succesful President we have ever had for the sake of the USA. And yes there are extremests in the Christian realm; but they do not teach and preach killing those who disagree with them.

I’m also not a fan of any of the ancient organized religions – which all oddly enough, sprang from the same root. But as a student of history, I believe they are all equal in blame.
“I exhort you with earnest prayer - not I, but God - that, as His heralds, you urge men by frequent exhortation, men of all ranks, knights as well as foot soldiers, rich as well as poor, to hasten to exterminate this vile race.”
Sounds like that quote is right out of a terrorist’s handbook; but these were the words of a Catholic Pope, calling for Christians to kill Muslims.
Another well known ‘Christian,’ a man named Adolph Hitler, and thousands of his followers, tried to exterminate all Jews.
And in our own country, so called ‘Christians’ tried to exterminate all Native Americans – even their innocent women and children. “The only good Indian, is a dead Indian.”
Based on mankind’s history, I don’t believe we’ll ever see an end to bloody war, until all religions finally agree that all other religions have an equal right to exist on this planet.
And that’s why I never step foot in any church these days; I do all my worshipping in the great outdoors.

I believe the man is sincere and means business - the instructions while addressing Congress pre-inauguration - now, the freezing of gov. ees salaries (100K & above) - the estopping of Lobbyists - QUICK - DIRECT - and NEEDED!
Let's see what he does now about: Banks. Credit, CEO's, NYSE, Mortgage Market, Iraq, Afghanistan - GITMO, Reversal of Bush's Policies regarding Patriot Act, Habeas Corpus, etc. - all these I think are more critical than Auto Mkt. and new 'green' energy stuff.

Very interesting political views. I must agree after my husband may get laid off from teaching because education, "isn't that important", my taxes this year have doubled, we used to go to a nice restaurant on Fridays, we go to McDonald's now, if we have the money.
