Is There Life After Death ?

I have thought a lot about writing this story. I feel it needs to be told. This is not my story and there may be some inaccuracies but it is true to the best of my knowledge.

My wife’s sister lives in a rural community and on a regular basis goes to a near by spring for her drinking water. The spring is located on the property of an elderly gentleman that she meets from time to time as she gets her water. One evening as usual she was filling her bottles and the old gentleman came along and paused to have a chat as he normally did. He told her there had been a young man earlier who had parked his car out on the main road and had walked all the way in the lane to fill his bottles and the old gentleman told him he could bring his car in to the spring. The old gentleman said for some reason the man had ignored him. He had filled his bottles and left with out acknowledging the old man’s presence. My wife’s sister agreed that that was strange and continued with small talk with the old man while she filled her bottles. She then wished him the best and returned home with her bottles. Upon arriving home she mentioned to her husband that she had been talking to the old gentleman who they both knew as a life long neighbour in the same community.

Here is where the story gets interesting . Her husband replied “No you weren’t.” She asked “What do you mean?” Her husband replied “The old guy died last night.” Her response was of course that is impossible because I was just talking to him. In truth he had passed away the night before at home. My wife relayed the story to me. A few days later I was talking to my wife’s sister. She is one of the most down to earth and honest people I know. She confirmed to me what she had told my wife was true but she didn’t know what to make of it. I explained to her that she obviously had a gift and had been blessed. She no longer had to wonder about life after death. She asked me what I meant ?. I explained the man who didn’t speak to the old gentleman wasn’t being rude. He did not have the ability to see or hear him because the old man had died the night before but had yet to realize it and was still here on earth. The old man not realizing he had died also could not understand why the man did not acknowledge him. My wife’s sister for some reason could for the same reason some physic’s can. I told her not to worry about it but in my opinion she had been blessed with a special knowledge of the hereafter that most of us will never experience. Least of all understand.

A few weeks later my wife’s sister left a message for me on face book asking me to speak at her funeral when she dies. She said she knows of no one who has the science of life figured out better than me and that she loved me. I replied that since I was somewhat older the odds are I’ll be gone before her but that hopefully when she comes to Heaven I’ll be able to help her find a perfect little angelic condo for her to live in and that I loved her too. I also told her that every day it seems that I discover how little I actually know about the science of life but there is one thing I know for sure. There is much more to life and death than any of us will ever understand.
